Liveaboard Diving in Honduras
The Bay Islands of Honduras feature lush coral, impressive sponges, iridescent fish, large manta rays, and elusive whale sharks.
Liveaboard diving on the underwater mountain range of Roatan, Utila, Guanaja offers scuba divers dramatic walls, vibrant reefs and cracks and crevices to explore in depths ranging for 5m to 60m. This area is famous for whale sharks, dolphins, and rare black coral.
The Cayman Trench, off the coast of Roatan, has created amazing canyons, trenches, walls and reefs for scuba divers to enjoy. There are a limited number of Honduras liveaboards operating in the area, making this a more unique liveaboard dive destination.
Mary's Place is one of Roatan's most spectacular dive sites. A deep crack formed by volcanic activity, this dive site offers stunning coral overhangs, large sea fans and sponges creating a haven for seahorses, lobster, octopus and schools of multi-colored fish. Liveaboard diving near Utila offers sheer walls and drop-offs on the north side, and healthy, vibrant reefs on the south side. The Black Hills dive site, located on the southeast end of the island, is a colorful, effervescent seamount. Between 10 - 50m, scuba divers will see tropical fish by the hundreds including barracuda, horse eyed jack, and Creole wrasses. Encrusted with beautiful corals, this dive is a very rich, vivid experience.
Guanaja is the most remote of the Bay Islands and includes shallow reefs, wrecks, volcanic outcroppings and wall dives. Take a Honduras diving cruise to Mestizo Reef, featuring two life size head-and-shoulder statues of Christopher Columbus and local chief, Lempira. There is also a shipwreck, Spanish cannons and a 16th century bell to explore among a large variety of fish and thriving coral life. This dive is the perfect underwater photography opportunity!
You can dive the Honduras Bay Islands all year long. The pleasant, tropical climate experiences little fluctuation in temperature. The average temperature is 29.4° C. Humidity is highest from May to September. Water temperature varies between 27-31° C. Dive visibility ranges from 24m-45m but can diminish slightly during the rainy season which runs from October to January.

Variety and scheduling of sites, dive briefings and dive masters leading each dive would be hard to improve. The weather, predominantly rainy and overcast, diminished visibility and coral vibrancy but did not negatively impact our diving experiences.

Excellent. Spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, friendly nurse sharks, octopuses, seahorses, shrimp, lobsters, and much more. Several dives at some remote sea mounts, three wreck dives, and a few dives with beautiful canyons and fly throughs.

I would stay away from the mainland, but Roatan was perfectly safe for traveling and beautiful.

I dove in Honduras previously. It was very good, although I noticed a general deterioration in the reef and corals of Roatan. In contrast, the Cayo Cochinos sites were pristine!

the overall experience was great! i have to say i was not that impressed with the reefs. they seem to be in distress which was sad. not having any other dive trips, i asked what others on board thought about these dives and the reefs etc compared to other locations, and they were equally not very impressed. i was bummed about that, but i am still SO glad i experienced this for the first time! i feel i really lucked out with the crew and the other guests on board!

Excellent! Great variety of dives--always something terrific and amazing to view. Visibility was typically excellent. Only a few dives had a really fast current.

The diving itself was a bit disappointing due to the state of the reefs. But I have been mostly diving in Egypt and Indonesia, so am spoiled.

Pretty good diving - not the greatest visibility in general, but still pretty great. Not always the healthiest reefs, but still pretty great. Occasional chances to see big and exciting stuff.
