Highlights
The Ortelius cruise ship offers exciting expeditions to the Antarctic Peninsular from November to March each year. There is a wide range of itineraries to choose from, including the popular 'Basecamp' departures. During these trips, all activities are free, including camping, kayaking, snowshoeing/hiking, mountaineering, photo workshops, and all the standard shore excursions and zodiac rides. Other trips include exploring the Weddel Sea in search of Emperor Penguins, where you will enjoy helicopter rides in the search. Whichever Antarctic cruise you choose, you will be looked after by highly experienced expedition specialists, including one expedition leader, one assistant, and 6 lecturers/guides. The Ortelius holds the highest ice-class notation available, making her more than adequate for these voyages.
Topside, the 91m Ortelius caters to 116 guests over several decks. There are 53 cabins onboard, and options range from Quadruple Share to Superior. All cabins have private toilet/shower facilities, desks, chairs, flatscreen TV, a telephone, a hairdryer, and ample storage space. The Deluxe and Superior cabins also have a sofa, refrigerator, and tea & coffee-making facilities. Absolutely trip of lifetime!!
We were in a zodiak and had a whale swim between four kodiaks. The.whale went under the kodiaks but never touched a boat. Also the whale lay directly beside our boat like he wanted us to touch it.

An enjoyable time getting to know everyone staff and customers alike
Personally getting to know people, having a whale swim close to us in Orne Harbour, the camping, Danco island and the plunge, all the penguins, having a leopard seal swim up to and play with the zodiac around Foyn bay and finally the amazing sunny views when cruising around the Gerlache strait!
