You get what you pay for

This review is of a 4D/N trip on the MV Camic, April 2024. Before you read any further, if you have a problem with small roaches on the boat, stop reading now and finds another boat. First, the good: • Food was excellent, however there were no desserts (cakes, pies, pastries, etc.) • AC in the room worked well. No other AC on the boat. • The rental equipment was good although several divers had the tank slide out of their BCD during the dive. • The crew was very helpful. • Cold beer is available for 70 THB. • The ensuite is a wet bath with plenty of hot water. • The dive briefings covered all the essentials without being boring. • The crew rinses and hangs your skins/wetsuit after each dive. • Good ice machine. • The hotel pickup and dropoff service was very good. Now, the not so good: • The boat is relatively clean, but looks tired. Needs some cosmetic work. • No place to store your luggage. I shared my bunk with my suitcase. • The bottom bunk is literally on the floor. If you have difficulty getting up and down, this may be a problem. The mattress is thin and not comfortable. Provided a nice pillow and blanket. • Your given one towel for the trip. • After the dive briefing, the first group has about 10 minutes before entering the water or inflatable raft. No time for another cup of coffee or even a bathroom visit. Seemed very rushed to me. I’m older so I naturally move a little slower but mistakes are made when being rushed. If you like moving slow, ask to be assigned to the second group. • On the 5 previous liveaboard trips I’ve taken, there was always a time of introducing the crew and guests. Not on this trip; I never saw the Captain. • The upper deck is partially-covered, but there are no chairs. There are foam mats on the floor which is where some of the crewmembers sleep at night. The only place to sit on the boat is in the dining area. There is an old adage that you get what you pay for. This is certainly applicable to the Camic. It is a good trip for the budget-minded but manage your expectations and you won’t be disappointed.
