serious safety compromises.

- The boat is big with multiple spacious decks. The cabins are decent size. However more than that nothing was proper, broken zodiacs meant that every dive was delayed and a serious overcrowding in the only working zodiac meant our diving equipment were stacked on top of each other as well as lengthy waiting for a pickup at the end of most dives which combined with the fact we were doing site with sharks meant we cant simply wait floating on the surface, on top of that there were more than 12 separate tank o-ring failures including twice underwater. On top of all that crew of the boat were unapologetic or even attempting in any serious way to address the above issues despite daily escalation and failed promises from their side that replacement zodiacs will be procured or borrowed. In summary I wont recommend this operator by any means due to the serious safety related issues we faced.

Great dives but not enough guides and boat too polluting
The dive sites were great, but one guide for 14 divers of different levels is really not enough and even dangerous for the less experienced. We are a couple of instructors and I had asked about it before the cruise but could never get a clear answer from Liveaboard.com. There is really no possibility to dive without a guide for most of the sites (Brothers, Daedalus, Elphinstone). We had originally booked on the JP Marine but they moved us to Orion as well as most of the other participating divers. Orion is an old boat and the zodiac engines were malfunctioning, which meant that we had to change some dive sites to dive under the boats, with the noise and pollution, too bad... The Orion boat spews polluting black smoke from its old engine... Not very ecological. On the other hand, the crew was exceptional and did their best to repair and fix any small issues during the cruise. The dive guides know the sites inside out and are friendly, even though such groups are difficult to manage. The briefings were clear. It remains an excellent value cruise for not rich but relatively experienced divers. If you are a beginner, take the private guide or choose another cruise where you are better supervised.

good, but with setbacks.
Here I would like to name some things to keep in mind about the Orion, the Ship is in a slightly "left" state apparently from the outside it looks very large and beautiful, but it has many flaws it would be good to restore cabins, beds, toilets... We had hot water only on occasion, and a very important problem was that the NITROX gave totally different readings every day, even at the same loads I could have 17% and my partner 28%. One day the meter broke down, and they had no spare. Another thing to improve are the Zodiacs, one was deflated and sometimes we went in it with water up to our knees. Every day they were damaged and the engines were repaired several times in the middle of the night. There was one day that a boat capsized and the other one when we went to look for it was trapped in the Reef, that day we were waiting in the water already without air until another boat from another boat came to rescue us. Another thing to mention is that the announced route was not that and we did not get to go to Elphinstone, and we were doing the same dive in Marsa Ghalib 4 times. when it was time for the tips the Crew appointed a girl as a tip collector and had to write down what each passenger put (which many people saw wrong) tip is tip... And as many people on the boat are not obliged to give them since by already paying 800 euros for this liveaboard it is supposed that the entire service is covered, minutes later they named those who had put little money forcing them to expose why they had not put the already established money as a tip (50e crew and 20e for the guides) I think that this rate should be in the price and then sell a libeaboard already for 900 euros and so then there are no surprises, if we start adding the Nitrox and the tips and drinks in the end you are paying almost 1000 euros. and the last thing is that they took us to the airport and left us at the International Terminal and we had the flight to Cairo, we insisted to the Driver that we had to go to the Domestic Flight Terminal and they insisted that no, that it was that Terminal and they were leaving there, arguing the Driver took our suitcases and left them on the floor and said that he had to leave that we had to go in, that it was there. It was not there and we had to go back to the National Terminal calling a taxi because the Driver did not want to come, we called one of the guides he contacted the Driver and the answer was: he has already left, he is not going to turn around now, pay 10euros and they will take you by Taxi. Sorry????? 10euros for 1klm from terminal to terminal? well in the end haggling for 6 euros, a Robo the truth and it also hurt me that they passed us like this.. the Driver just wanted to leave us there and leave. Too bad.

Very nice cruise, respect for the course.
Be alone for two days on the Abu Fendira reef, with water at 29* and dive in the passes with the dolphins..... A very intelligent captain who allowed us to dive every day without too much navigation, maximum 1h30 between two sites, and to sail at night for longer periods between 5 and 6 hours, in the best possible comfort and under the stars.....
