Highlights
Dive the amazing wrecks of Truk Lagoon Micronesia in comfort aboard the 58m SS Thorfinn Liveaboard. The SS Thorfinn Liveaboard has 10 air-conditioned cabins, 7 of which have en-suite bathroom facilities. Each cabin has in-room vanities, a TV and DVD player, and a full-length closet. With five decks, there is plenty of room for relaxation aboard the SS Thorfinn Liveaboard. On deck ‘C’ is a comfortable and spacious salon with a 50” multi-system LED TV and DVD player, a CD player with iPod connection, and a 6-speaker surround sound system. The library includes a range of Fish ID reference books, a comfortable seating area, and a fully stocked bar, making this a popular guest area.
The dining lounge on deck ‘D’ will serve a varied menu throughout the day chosen by the 2 onboard chefs. For further relaxation, the SS Thorfinn Liveaboard offers a sun deck with a shaded area and spectacular views for daytime relaxation or the Spa deck, which has a 12-person jacuzzi. The 22 SS Thorfinn Liveaboard crew - which offers a 1:1 guest-to-crew ratio, is on hand to take care of you.
To avoid damaging the bottom, the SS Thorfinn is moored on several moorings across the Truk Lagoon and has speedboats to carry divers to the dive sites, which are, on average, about 10 minutes away from the mother ship. The SS Thorfinn Liveaboard has the needs of underwater photographers in mind and offers service, storage tables, and a camera maintenance and charging area. Technical divers can be catered to on an 'all you can eat' basis, with a wide range of supplies available.

Fantastic experience
The experience was fantastic. The dive briefings were such that every dive was explained in detail, including what we would see and how the damage happened. This along with a complete history of the ship. The staff was beyond helpful and could never do enough to help. The meals were served 3 times per day at a set time every day. And upon getting up in the morning and after every dive there were plenty of treats in the room where the briefings were held. I have to say that this ship is dedicated to diving. We were treated great but not the luxury one might expect on other ships. If you want to dive and concentrate on diving then this is the ship for you. 4 dives a day on the schedule with the option to do more. Absolutely fantastic.

My bucket list is now, awsome and complete!
Getting there was a trip in itself for me. But NOTHING is better than the diving…nothing! I have had this location on my radar for 43 years, so actually being there, diving…outstanding!

An unforgettable experience
Diving the Japanese wrecks in Chuuk Lagoon is a world-class experience. The captain of the Thorfinn is a remarkable asset to this experience because he's been diving these wrecks for more than 40 years. He knows all their histories and what makes each one special. The dive guides are to be commended for being able to find every wreck, to guide you in and out of all the interior spaces, and to show you what's really worth seeing. The rental equipment is new and well-maintained. The Thorfinn is more than 50 years old and shows it. The cabins on the upper deck near the lounge are okay, but the lower deck cabins are airless, dark and cramped. Doors get stuck. Faucets don't turn. The food is dull and repetitive. We didn't have fish once, and there were few fresh fruits or vegetables. The internet is worthless. It functions for only a few hours a day and doesn't have enough bandwidth for any web pages to load. During my week aboard the Thorfinn, we never once changed our anchorage. So, it was as though we were on a floating hotel with poor food and no internet. A good alternative to the Thorfinn would be to stay ashore in a hotel like the Blue Lagoon and go out in their dive boats. You'd get better food and internet. Still, my hat's off to the excellent dive guides and thanks to Captain Lance for his memorable tales.

Liveaboard anchored, but great diving
We were really disappointed this liveaboard was anchored, as we could see the other liveaboard moving around the lagoon. We took boats out to dive sites and likely saw as much as they did...we just never had a change of scenery from the boat. Great (deep!) diving, healthy coral/sea life and great food!

We had the wrecks to ourselves
I think we really lucked out that the week we spent was a quiet one and so it was just myself and another diver with our guide penetrating the wrecks and really getting an amazing diving experience. So much to see and the Captain and his thorough and informative dive briefings was great. Lance has so much knowledge about the history and it helped to really get into the dives. Food was like home cooked meals and excellent comfort food. I thought that the fact that all dive sites are reached by tender would be a hassle but the fact that the mothership just sits in the best location in the lagoon made the rides out to the sites short and the time on board just gentle rocking. Trip of a lifetime.

All dive sites are wrecks, wreck lovers should go
This trip is suitable for all wreck lovers. All dive sites are wrecks dives without reef dives, we don't need to suffer from reef dives(I extremely hate fish and reefs=V=) Visited more than 20 wrecks, scheduled 3-4 dives per day since the weather condition was very bad Luckily, I still visited lots of interesting and attractive engine rooms =] Crews and dive guides are very friendly and helpful=V=

The place to go for wreck diving
I stayed on the boat for 8 days diving 4 wrecks every day, and when I left there were still many we had not seen, I was Tech diving but other diver where mostly recreational level, the wreck are at all depth so OK for all diver but some of the deeper ones were 60+ m so having deco cylinder helped reduce the deco times. The boat was moored while we were on it, which worked well as she is mored close to the main wreck and has fast Dive boat to take you to the dive site, we were comfortably doing 4 dived per day with meals or snack waiting between dives. The captin Lance was a working history book of the area which added to the interest
